Motor works great. The cheap battery charger...
Just purchased the Travel XP a couple of weeks ago. The night before I was to use it I put it on the charger. When I checked on it an a couple of hours later neither the battery nor the charger had any LED lights. The battery charged to about 70 percent (verified after I installed it). The brand new charger has left me dead in the water. Torqueedo tried to send me to a dealer in another state (or optionally... country)to have them resolve it. I have heard nothing from either Torqueedo or the dealer.

Trying to learn enough to buy a Torqeedo
But I can't find any listed dealers in the Portland ME aree who still have a relationship with Torqeedo. Yamaha bought Torqeedo several months ago. Is this a transition problem? Very hard to find anyone who can actually let me grip one of these things, heft its weight, guess about right shaft length since the shortest shaft at 24" seems awfully long for shallow water use. Will the plastic propeller survive an encounter with rocks? Or at least with mud? No one seems to know anything.

Works well and easy to move around
Purchased this summer because I was tired of wrestling a two stroke 8hp between our boat and inflatable (we remove the engine for high speed towing). Because it is two pieces, the battery and the shaft, it is much easier to move back and forth. Performance is good for our primary use, which is getting us to shore when anchored. Battery life is good and extra bonus for not having to dealing with gas tank and hose. However, if I needed to go longer distances and get our inflatable on plane, I would stick with the 8hp two stroke.

The Key
The key, the key, the key! Must remember the key or you can spend your first 45 minutes wondering why the thing won't start. It is a superior if expensive alternative to the 5 HP ICE. Only downside if you are in your 80's: the battery is heavier than you'd like. But once you get the hang of installing it, it slots right in.
