Solid Teak Winch Pad to be Mounted on Mast
I am adding a second halyard winch to the mast of my Quickstep 24, so this required removing a lot of material on the bottom face to have the pad conform to the mast's curvature. The wood was removed by a combination of cross cuts and filing and is nearly complete. I now have other priorities to get my this sailboat ready for launching. I'll continue the project this summer. The round block was clear of any knots or potential splits. Because the longitudinal oval shape of the mast cross-section, I have had to remove a lot of wood in the mid- section. Fortunately, I have oriented the wood grain to be horizontal to reduce the likelihood of the disk splitting. The hardest part is nearly complete and I should have smooth sailing for the remainder of this task.
