Webasto Platinum 16K BTU
Ordered the Webasto Platinum to replace an older Marine air system. Replacement was simple as I just needed to swap the old ducts onto the new unit which was easily retrofittable. Input power and sea water pump were easy to hook up. Plumbing from original sea water pump fit easily along with the condensation drain. AC unit seems to cool the cabin efficiently. This is my second webasto unit as I had used one on my last boat and that worked out well. Can beat it for the price.

Good value
As usual, Defender had the best price. Expect to get 5-10 years from these webasto units. Not the most durable or longest lasting but a good value for the price. Great as a DIY project. The platinum is different dimensions than the classic model and the blower and hoses are in different positions. Keep this in mind in case you are replacing an fcf classic with the new fcf platinum. Overall, very happy for the price paid. Can't beat Defenders customer service.

I bought this unity year ago from Defender. Shipping was great I had no problem with Defender at all. The product however leaves much to be desired. I bought it in the winter time installed it on my boat and turned it on to get heat and it worked sometimes. There was something wrong with it and there still is. After many phone calls and troubleshooting back and forth with Webasto, their solution was for me to take it back out and ship it to them. It would have been in my cost if they couldn't find anything wrong. The unit would constantly trip circuit breakers on startup. In the summertime the automatic fan function doesn't work properly either. At least it cools if I have the fan set to high or medium or low but not automatic. Another reviewer noted that there is no charging port for the system and that is correct. The folks at Webasto have it as a sealed system there is no way to increase or decrease the charge.

is this a complete system with the electrical box and control panel. I am planning to replace an old Cruise air system. What else would be needed to complete the install?
Yes, complete, with the only exception being any hose adapters needed to connect the circulation pump waterlines.

Does this unit require water input to operate. Can it operate on the hard? Without water flow?
Yes it requires water flow thru its heat exchanger, so I would not operate it on the hard without water flow.

Does not come with the water pump. Best to refer to their installation manual for the water pump specs for the particular unit you're looking to purchase.

16000 Platinum unit will get E2 error after running for a little while. I’m wondering if I need a higher pump flow rate or if something else may be causing the issue.
If the pump had previously worked with the unit, I would check the strainer for debris and also the outflow side for any restrictions. Make sure there is easy flow thru the system. If the unit is new and the pump is old, I would verify the specifications.

what is the difference between regular and Platinum model
The main differences are size and noise level. The FCF Platinum 12,000 and 16,000 BTU units have a footprint that is very similar to the Dometic Turbo, which can make them an easier replacement in some installations. The FCF Classic versions have a more square layout and may require a little more space depending on the installation.
The FCF Platinum is also designed to run more quietly. Once the cabin reaches the desired temperature, it automatically switches to an ultra-low fan speed to reduce noise and maintain comfort. The FCF Classic continues to run at the selected fan speed even after the set temperature has been reached.
