Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing experience all around. I am disappointed to say the least. The NFR helm shipped without the cable capture retaining spring. I read the instructions, and “Did it their way” as per the suggestion on the printed media. I’m pretty handy and knowing that I wasn’t going to need to salvage the old steering cable cut it cut it to make the removal process easier for me. Everything installed as per plan and when time to connect the cable to the helm everything went sideways. The cable wouldn’t lock in place on the helm. It was time consuming and a real PITA to figure this out on my own. To describe the instructions that come with the product as meager, is generous. Once I installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, and then compared to the old helm, and realized that the product they sent me was defective missing the spring cable retaining mechanism. I was hot. I contacted Defender who gave me the run around for a few days until I convinced them that the product was missing a key factory installed part, and they finally contacted Dometic to "take care of it" with urgency. I am still waiting over a week now for relief. The ghosting from Dometic is the worst part. I knew that they were a big conglomerate, but figured they still care about end users(the customer), right? Apparently not. I am very unhappy and it’s to too bad, as it could have been a slam dunk with an upgrade to my old Montauk 17 steering -- but now I am not able to launch boat and have no idea when someone will step up to sort out their problem.
