Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product. The larger Rule pumps seem to work longer than the smaller ones. I replaced a 10 yr old pump with this one. Easy swap using same strainer mounting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rule Pump This pump is for a newer style shower box, I didn't realize that and had to return it, but Defender is easy to deal with when something has to be returned. Great service, thanks guys!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Replace Bilge Pump This purchase was to replace the same brand and size existing bilge pump. It is nice that the wire colors have been kept the same and the pump base is the same. So, the new pump locks into the existing base and the same size hose slides right on. The previous bilge pump came with the boat, so I don't know how long it lasted.

I double dog dare you to locate a spec sheet for any rule pump other than the 1500.  Searching on a 2000, 3700 or 4000 spec sheet takes you to the 1500.  This will not help to  identify discharge hose size.

what size wire should be used to connect the Rule 2000 pump?

        Asked by: uvantu
This depends on how much voltage drop you are willing to tolerate in the circuit. I would recommend a 3% drop for the main wire because there will be additional losses in the circuit as it passes through the float switch (skinny wire) and the ON/OFF/AUTO switch. With this in mind and assuming a 12 volt system, you want your resistance for the wire to be no more than 0.36V/8.4 amps= 0.043 Ohms. Divide this value by the resistance of the wire (Ohms/ft) to get the maximum length of the circuit for any size of wire. For example, the maximum length of 14 gauge wire would be 0.043 Ohms/.0025 Ohms per ft= 17.2’. I ended up using 10 gauge wire on my boat due to the 40’ circuit length (20’ from the panel to the float switch + 20’ back) and made the connections to the float switch via a terminal block with heat shrink ring terminals to prevent corrosion in the wires. This method worked well and made it easier to change out float switches when necessary. I hope this helps. PS, if you still have issues with voltage drop on the Rule 2000, you might consider a Rule 1500 since it only draws 4.8 amps (according to the West Marine info) compared to the 8.4 amps of a Rule 2000 and voltage drop is directly related to the amperage.
