A Great Replacement for My Old Simpson-Lawrence
As always, Defender had the best price, and shipped quickly for free across the entire USA. The Lewmar V2 was a close match to my old Simpson-Lawrence windlass that came with the 1984 sloop we bought in 2022. I don't think the S-L was original, guessing it was about 20 years old. It worked fine until it didn't. I was pretty shocked to see the pawls were made of plastic (they failed). The new Lewmar is all stainless except one small rotating lever that releases a pawl to allow free-fall of the anchor if desired. It should also be stainless, but that is the only questionable aspect to this windlass I could find. I had the whole unit professionally mounted and wired, which was expensive, but gave me a great sense of security, especially having everything explained and demonstrated. I ordered it with the drum option. It tested fine, and may not be used much, but I'm glad it is available in the odd situation that might call for it. Also, the remote control is sweet (the old S-L footswitches in the deck will soon be removed and covered) but the first thing I did was make a lanyard for it to go around my neck. Losing it overboard would be expensive and make things difficult. The small black plastic wrench used for loosening and tightening the clutch connecting the gypsy to the drum could also easily get lost. I painted it red and am pondering how to attach a wrist lanyard. Small things, but I'm not wanting them to disappear. All in all, the Lewmar V2 is an excellent, strongly built anchor windlass that I look forward to using for many years.

Windlass replacement
While not exactly the same as the Ocean series, pretty darn close
I ordered new foot switches etc.
The only problem I encountered was a major issue in existing wire and the new solenoid terminals which were extremely small. I kept my old solenoid controller and stored the new one as a backup.
