Great switch but received with seal on box opened
Seal on box was opened. Switch appeared new. Be sure to know thickness of panel this will be installed on because it is very thin. When tightening the wire screws the back plastic panel starts to flex away from the main body.

Questions
My swich had a burnt wire. Would this cause loss of shore power and reverse polarity light to come on
A burnt wire or short in a wire can cause few issues including loss of power. I would contact a licensed electrician or reach out to Blue Seas tech support for assistance to make sure there are no underlying issues causing the burnt wire.

Can too much power cause my shore/ gen swich to fail when the air conditioner and microwave oven and refrigerator are all running on my boat at the same time
It is certainly possible. You may be running more amperage thru it than it was designed for, especially if they are all on at the same time!
