About Chain

Anchor Chains

By the drum, pail or foot, marine chain serves a myriad of purposes. From anchor chain and windlass chain to multipurpose and high strength, marine chain is often time more versatile than rope.

What size chain do I need for my sized boat?

The greatest benefit of using marine chain aboard your boat is the simple fact that it comes in all sizes and lengths. Anchor chain from Defender is offered in stainless steel as well as galvanized steel but link size of both is kept small in an attempt to avoid tangling in anchor storage. Marine chain strength generally outweighs that of rope and chain size weighs heavily on determining it's overall strength.

Does an anchor line need a chain?

Defender Marine offers a full line of anchor ropes for sale. Larger boats and larger anchors, especially those that utilize a windlass, will benefit from anchor chain, chain shackles and anchor shackles. Chain dries quickly for storage and adds stability without stretching.

How is chain priced

Marine chain at Defender is priced by the foot in predetermined shots, by the pail and also by the drum. Keep in mind that additional freight charges may apply and don't let that surprise you! Pricing of chain will depend on the size of the chain - 5/16, 3/8, 1/4, 1/2 - and the material used to fabricate it. Specialty chains are cut and sold in certain lengths.
